Many times we get asked what our profession is. It’s easy to spit out a few words as an answer. That’s all people tend to expect to hear anyway, but what you say – and the words you choose to say – have a huge impact on what people think of you and your own self confidence. Here is what I believe is the one word moms need to avoid when asked this question.

Many times we get asked what our profession is. The words we choose to answer are important! Find out the one word you should avoid using if you are a mom.

Let them know you’re a stay at home or work at home mom! Yes, you’re going to get a few eye rolls, but those people probably aren’t worth much of your time anyway.

However, please – never, ever – say that you are just a stay at home mom.

Don’t reply with, “I just work from home while raising the kids.”

With that one little word, you are devaluing what you do and what you contribute to your family each and every day.

You are so much more than just a mom. Because in being a mom – whether you work in the home or out – means you are a lot of things!

You are a teacher.
You are a nurse.
You are a counselor.
You are a listener.
You are an encourager.
You are a role model.
You are a guide.
You are a referee.
You are kind.
You are strong.
You are a gift.
You can function on little sleep.
You read little books for hours on end.
You make an impact.
You build self esteem.
You give security.
You care.
You worry.
You inspire.
You persevere.
You love.
You do so much more.
You are a mom.
And you are just plain good at what you do!

So the next time someone asks what you do, please avoid using the word just. You are so much more than just a mom, because mom is a powerful word! In fact, it might just be the most powerful profession out there.

Many times we get asked what our profession is. The words we choose to answer are important! Find out the one word you should avoid using if you are a mom.
