In church the other day the priest gave us a serious question to ponder.

When have you had enough without needing more?

Sometimes you hear a phrase so shocking that it changes the way you look at everything. This post is one of those! Enough versus more. When do you have enough?

First, think about those mashed potatoes, turkey, or dressing at Thanksgiving. How can you tell you’ve had enough? Or do you always want more? Perhaps you just keep going until you’re so stuffed you can’t move. {Sheepishly raises hand…}

What about your time with family. How much time is enough? Are you always wanting more?

Then think about your finances. Do you have enough? Do you want more?

I’m sure there are many things in life in which you may have “enough” right now, but you’re still wanting more. Many of us are on this same path. However, is this productive or healthy? Shouldn’t we just be satisfied with having enough?

What kind of life does God want us to live? Does he want us to always have more, or does he believe we should be happy with enough?

This is a question I know I need to seriously ponder in my life. There’s always something new, improved, or updated that I could want. However, do I really need it? That’s the real question.

My plan is to spend more time in prayer. I intend to be more intentional about my thoughts to help keep my wants and desires in check. My goal is for this prayer to help me realize the difference between my “enoughs” and “mores”.

After all, I certainly have enough. I have an amazing husband who loves me, a little boy who is healthy and strong, a great extended family, many amazing friends, a wonderful job that gives me the flexibility to work from home, enough money to allow us to live well, and so many other things that fill my life with joy and happiness.

I should be happy with that. There’s no need for more.

I have enough.
