A few week’s ago we went over to a friends place for a few hours to relax an unwind. As always, I had my trusty cell phone with me. After all, you just never know when you’re going to get a message for one of your blogs, a new e-mail, or a new client who wants some answers.

We were having a great time, chatting, having a drink, and watching our kids play together.

That’s when the first message came in. I quickly checked it without missing a beat of the conversation, and then kept on talking like normal.

Five minutes later I got the dreaded “beep, beep”.

My battery was dying.

Are you addicted to your cell phone? Is it taking over your life? This blog post will help you gain focus and remember what is truly important. Step away from the cell phone!

Expecting another message from the person I had just responded to, I willed my phone to stay on a bit longer.

“Beep, beep – da dadada dada”

It was dead.

Now what could I do?

Sigh.

I buried my phone in my pocket and kept chatting with my friends.

You know what?

We had a GREAT evening of conversation!

We ended up staying at their house another two hours.

I forgot about my phone.

I forgot about the businesses I run.

I came home refreshed and energized!

I hadn’t been tied down to my phone all night long.

You know what, nothing had blown up in those two hours while I “tuned out” from the online world.

Today I urge you – Step away from the cell phone!

Yes, I’m as guilty as anyone for feeling a need to have my phone by my side at all times.

But really, why?

If that e-mail doesn’t get checked right away, am I really going to lose a client?

If I don’t know how much I had in sales for one day, does it really matter?

Here’s what does matter:

  • making time for God each day
  • my husband
  • my son
  • my friends
  • my health

You see – sometimes I forget to step away from the cell phone, and I mess up my priorities.

My phone shutting down that night was a blessing in disguise. God knew I needed this little life lesson and to take a break. After all, it’s hard to step away from everything when you’re a work at home mom.

But I did, and I don’t regret it for a moment!

Are you addicted to your cell phone? Is it taking over your life? This blog post will help you gain focus and remember what is truly important. Step away from the cell phone!
