Talk to any essential oil user – new or experienced – long enough and you’re going to hear about it – essential oil side effects. There are articles all over the internet about why you should or should not use essential oils. Some of these articles have some pretty extreme viewpoints and side effects. While I’m definitely not an expert on all essential oils. today I want to share some of the “side effects” I’ve had since using essential oils since 2014.
1. No more stickiness
I started with this point because it might very well be my favorite. My bathroom used to be coated in hairspray. Having naturally curly hair, I used to use a lot of hair product. However, I’m now using just all natural shampoo and an apple cider vinegar rinse. That’s it! No more mousse, hairspray, or hair gel. This means my floors, counter tops, and other surfaces are no longer covered in stickiness. YEA! (It’s the simple things, folks!)
2. Less worry
Ok, I think I lied in point #1 because this one really is my favorite! I love being able to scrub the floors or clean my son’s toys, give them to him, and then not have to worry about whether he’s going to put them in his mouth. If he does, I don’t have to stress about what chemicals are going into his body. Instead I can trust my Thieves Household Cleaner to keep my home clean and my son safe! {If you want a cheat sheet for your Thieves Household Cleaner, click here.}
3. Better health
Since starting to use essential oils I’ve had less every day stress, better weight management, a healthier immune system, and my digestive system is running in tip top shape. Essential oils have been an essential part of this change. In reducing chemicals in our home, we’ve also gone to more whole foods – which has helped my family with our health as well. We will have a long way to go, but it’s so great to see our overall health improve with the help of these oils.
4. Saving money
When I originally saw the price of some of the oils, I was less than pleased. I mean, come on, the initial kit is nearly $200! But then when I realized just how powerful one drop of essential oil is, my whole attitude changed. These oils are saving me hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars each year. I no longer need to buy cleaning products because I have vinegar, lemon essential oil, and Thieves Household Cleaner. We no longer use traditional bathroom products, such as deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, hair products, lotions, and perfumes. Instead we use essential oils. I could go on about other ways we’ve saved money with essential oils, but I really think you need to find them out for yourself.
5. Making money
Yes, a surprising “side effect” of essential oils for me is that I’m actually making money. Being a stay at home mom, the fact that I’m able to make money from home has been amazing!
6. New friends
If you had told me I would make new friends by using essential oils, I would have laughed in your face. How can using essential oils help me make friends? But I’m telling you right now that embarking on a health journey that involves essential oils is going to change your life, and you’re going to meet some amazing people along the way! Sherri, Amber, and Lynz are just the first few who come to mind (and they all happen to blog as well).
7. Better overall mood
While this ties into #3, it’s been significant enough that I wanted to give my mood it’s own bullet point. Since starting to use essential oils regularly, I can honestly say that I’m in a better overall mood. I no longer get as stressed out about the every day things that happen. Working from home, taking care of a toddler all day, and running multiple online businesses can be stressful – yet I feel like my moods are more stabilized now than they ever have been.
I’m sure I could go on and on telling you about all of the essential oil side effects I’ve experienced, but seven points seems like a good stopping point for today. 🙂
